“Our sponsors, Bob and Jackie Dolan,

gave us some really good advice when

we first started retailing and that was:

‘keep good records when you put out

your catalogues.’

Their words of wisdom really paid off at

the beginning of Period 11. We don’t drop

catalogues into houses that are for sale (as very

often we don’t get them back!) but always make a

note of the address in our round books for next

time. Some properties stay on the market for anything up to six months but we

note them each time we deliver to the area.

Tim was delivering to our regular customers in a village not far from us and

noticed that a house that had been for sale for a few months was now

occupied, so delivered a book. When he went back to collect the catalogues he

saw that there was an order from the new

owner for £131! The lady had just moved

into her new house and our catalogue had

arrived at exactly the right time for her to

buy all those little bits and pieces that, in her

words, ‘you don’t realise you need until you

haven’t got them.’

Thanks to some good advice and our trusty

record book we have gained a very satisfied

new customer.�
